Play BreakDown

Play #2 Oklahoma vs UCONN A to B Foul in transition This transition play happens quickly. The Trail to new Lead moves quickly down the floor to put himself in the best position to referee the defender. Notice that he stops just before the endline as this gives him the best look and ability to process the play. He referees the defender and sees that he jumps from point A, creates illegal contact (body then ball), then blocks the shot and lands in point B. You can really see the illegal A to B movement by the defender from the baseline angle. Some things that can help us get these play correct are... Get your eyes to the defender as soon as possible If the defender has his back to the basket and defending the rim he is more likely to be able to defend the play legally If the defender jumps off of both feet the chances of legally jumping vertical are much higher. In most cases when the defender jumps off one foot to defend he leaves his vertical plane creating the illegal A to B contact.
