Key Insights on Bench Decorum and Foul Recognition

This training video emphasizes the importance of recognizing fouls promptly and maintaining proper bench decorum during games. It highlights a specific scenario where an obvious foul occurred that required a whistle from the Lead official. The Trail official is commended for staying engaged with the play, but it is noted that a quick whistle from the Lead could have prevented the need for a technical foul. The video stresses that officials must manage coaches effectively, as failing to do so can lead to serious consequences, including potential dismissal from officiating. It concludes by reminding officials to keep their attention on the coach's bench to monitor for any further infractions, maintaining the integrity of the game and the officiating crew.

Play BreakDown

This is an obvious foul in front of the Lead that needs a whistle. Good job by Trail staying connected and and picking up this play, but if lead has a whistle we probably wouldn’t need a technical foul on the play. We should not be giving the coach this much time to react without a technical foul. Bench decorum is taken very seriously in this consortium, and if you don’t handle the coaches and the benches you will not work here very long. At the end of clip, all 3 referees have their back to the coach and his bench. Someone must keep eyes on his bench in case he deserves 2nd Technical.
