Mastering Technical Fouls in Basketball Officiating
This training video emphasizes the importance of knowing coaches before the game to avoid surprises. It highlights that technical fouls should be called when warranted, without the referee actively seeking them out. Ron's approach to delivering an unemotional technical foul is showcased, emphasizing professionalism. The crew is instructed to efficiently handle the aftermath by regrouping the players for free throws and maintaining game flow. The key takeaway is that technical fouls should be managed like any other foul, reinforcing the need for officiating to remain impartial and professional.
Play BreakDown
Know your coaches before the game and don’t get surprised. Technical fouls should call themselves, we never want to be actively looking to call technical fouls but can’t be afraid when it presents itself. Ron gives an unemotional technical foul, and then gets away. As a crew we will get the shooter lined up, shoot our free throws and get the ball back in play. Technical fouls should be treated as just another foul call. Remember, it is not personal!
